The high school cross country season is winding down with Batesville, Southside, Cedar Ridge, and Melbourne headed to Jonesboro for the Legacy Insurance (Valley View) Blazer Invitational on Tuesday, Oct. 20. The Pioneers will be at Paragould for their 5A East championship Oct. 27 and at Oaklawn for the 5A state championships Friday, Nov. 6.

With temperatures heading downward toward autumn normal, racing season is (dare I say?) heating up! The annual Steady Steve 5K to support Our Father’s Table food ministry got October off to a fast start with plenty of local high school students, staff, and families in action as well as helpers and those helped from the

Batesville Pioneer cross-country opens competition Tuesday afternoon at the Melbourne Bearkatz Invitational (state calendar at ar.milesplit.com). Junior high girls start the season off at 5:15. More than $2500 raised for the scholarship fund. I have not had any open group runs this week as I’ve gotten back to

My mornings are occupied with summer cross country with the Batesville Pioneers, so any open group runs are evenings or weekends through August. I am timing the Difani Memorial 5K starting at 7 am Saturday at Eagle Mountain Elementary. We can always use volunteers on the course pointing out turns and watching traffic, so any

MY MILES: One more week until my mornings will be taken up with BHS Pioneer summer cross country, so this Monday my own miles will be logged starting 7 am from the horse arena on Miller Creek Road. Wednesday July 1 at 7 am I will start from the side parking lot at Compass Church

Hey friends, with school facilities shut down for a couple of weeks, I’ve got a couple of race preps in store. First is a downhill race simulation for the July 4 Little Rock Firecracker 5k. We’re trying for 8:00/mile pace on a route from Eagle Mountain down to the Community Center. That’s Monday morning, June
