Downhill racer plans 6/22-26

Hey friends, with school facilities shut down for a couple of weeks, I’ve got a couple of race preps in store.

First is a downhill race simulation for the July 4 Little Rock Firecracker 5k. We’re trying for 8:00/mile pace on a route from Eagle Mountain down to the Community Center. That’s Monday morning, June 22 at 7. We’ll meet at Eagle Mountain Elementary, warmup with a bit of a trek not quite back to the water tower for our start. Down Eagle Mountain Boulevard to the grass island above Walmart, into the grass cut-through, left on Moss, right on Shadetree, across and down Mark, out Goff to the park trail past the dog walk area and down that cut-through to the Community Garden, across to trail beside Community Center until we hit 5K distance. For those who want to join but don’t want to make it a 10K returning (uphill) to Eagle Mountain, we can meet at 6:45 by Rowe Lake at the Community Center, leave some vehicles there and carpool up to Eagle Mountain. Check with me if you need to coordinate. I can squeeze three passengers in back seat and one riding shotgun.

As long as we’re thinking of Eagle Mountain, the next local race is the Difani Memorial Experience Independence 5K July 11, so Wednesday I will do the course preview from Eagle Mountain Elementary at 7 am. We use the familiar old 1040 Tax Run course now serving as Hope for the Holiday 5K, Turkey Day 5k, and Difani 5K (while Riverside Park is under development).

Next on the local event horizon is Lyon Elite Cross Country Camp July 17-18 ($25 per day or $45 for the pair), so Friday I will park in the small lot back of Lyon across from the baseball field. I’ll run some campus greenways and perhaps out College Street for a neighborhood tour.

Monday is under a stopwatch, but all paces are welcome all three days and even on race simulation day I backtrack so no one is left alone or lost.
