RACE DAY: I had a grand time at the Run to Win 5K at Ridgerunner today, first race since last summer’s Cave City Melon Dash. I was supposed to time an event but it got PPD and I mentioned to Suzy that “I suppose I could run one tomorrow, but …” She didn’t let me get the next word out, saying “I’ll sign you up.”
Me: “I’m not in racing shape.” Suzy: “Run for fun, you always say.”
Yup, she knows! I enjoyed racing on a course I helped map out a few years back. I figured I would be doing well to finish anywhere in a 4-minute spread, and I landed right in the middle of that range.
On to the Melon Dash again at the end of July!
GROUP RUNS UPCOMING: Monday (6/15) looks like chance of moderate rain right when I start at 7 am, so I’m going to stick to lower downtown Batesville streets, starting from Marshall’s Fabrics store parking lot. I’ll run flat loops below the Melba, maybe ranging toward Fox Creek BBQ/Whistle Stop.
Wednesday (6/17) 7 am I plan to park near the horse arena back from the soccer complex and run grass loops outside the soccer fields as I head into summer cross country season.
Friday (6/19) 7 am I’ll park at the Pioneer basketball gym lot and run campus trails and lanes for anyone who wants to get a look at our cross country space before we start training July 6.
NEXT RACES: Difani Memorial/Experience Independence 5K at Eagle Mountain July 11. For PR chasers, the mostly downhill Firecracker Fast 5K in Little Rock is July 4. Cave City Melon Dash 5K is July 25.
See you on the roads!
